Hello all,

I am not usually the type of person to do this type of thing, but I am currently trying to raise funds for my track meets this summer. My overall goal is to compete in Rio next year in the Paralympic games, and funding to get to as many meets as possible would be appreciated. A youtube video and that sort of thing is on the page, so that you all won't think that I'm a creepo. lol
Thanks in advance.

How much money is required?

Wayne, every little bit helps. This does not have to be a thousand dollar contribution, it could be just ten dollars if that's all you have.

I will use this money on hotels, plane tickets, entry into meets, and food while I'm at the meets. I know for sure my first meet is in June in Minneapolis.

Have you contacted the United States Association of Blind Athletes? If your good enough to have a realistic shot at making the paraolympics they can probably help you figure out how to get funding.

They won't fund me. I'm a track athlete, not a goalball athlete.

I'd try creating an indiegogo campaign.

what is that and how does that work?

Lakeria, it's another crowd-funding site like GoFundMe, and I believe it works the same way. I have never used either site though, so I can't tell you the specific similarities and differences.

indigogo is indeed a croud funding website like kickstarter and other similar website. I'm not sure how it works, but it is a way to get your profile out there. Might want to think about making a vedio of you and what sort of things you have achieve so far in terms of the sport side of thing. Also, might want to look at other funding dentity like NFB or even the american olympic or paraolympic committee or similar organization. Although your sport is not blind specific sport, but, if you have the ability and capability, it shouldn't be too hard getting sponsorship or some sort of officials funding towards your sporting journey. I think, it will be better than advertise it on Zone, you will reach a wider audians... Good luck, all the best

The Paralympics will not sponsor me because I have not gotten to that point yet. I have spread my link around to the NFB chapter here in the state, that's the best I can do.

I appreciate the suggestions, but I'm not creating any more profiles. I can barely get anything done with this one...

You mentioning having spread the link to your state NFB made me think: do you have a way to get it on any of the NfB or ACB email lists? I don't know how the ACB lists work, but if you emailed David Andrews, the moderator of the NFB lists, maybe he would post it for you? Just a thought.

you've gotten good suggestions.
I think asking people to circulate the link on the lists that have been mentioned, and looking into athletic-specific resources, will be your best bet.
you'll reach your intended audience, for one thing, and probably make some connections that could point you in the right direction.

Wouldn't that be kind of weird asking David Andrews to spread my story when I'm not a member of the NFB? I think it's a great idea, but...

Thanks a lot. Some boards just get looked over, so...I'm glad people are at least suggesting things. That's the least you can do if you can't donate. :)

Like I said before, every little bit and thing helps. Really once I get airfare out of the way, I really don't need to fund raise, but I just don't have the $500 to do this, so...

you don't have to be an NFB member to ask for their help in things, if I'm not mistaken. maybe Alicia or someone else who is an NFB-er can tell you for certain.

Well, I just submitted my link to the cancer survivors group that I am apart of in the NFB. Maybe that will get it spread around.
